Thanks, Bill, I will keep that in mind about getting permission before
destruction.  At one time we did have an HIV-AIDS grant and that is
probably the sort of document you reference.

I would make sure you are aware of any special requirements for
requesting authority for disposal of the original documents prior to
destroying them.  There are still some federal agencies that require
permission prior to disposal of paper records.  The ones that I am aware
of have to do with education grants and research programs but I would
not be surprised if similar requirements did not exist elsewhere.
