Hi Records Coordinator:

I replied to the list yesterday that we have published a second edition of
"At Your Fingertips: A Household Filing System that Works for You",
incorporating classification, retention, protection and electronic records
management requirements for personal records. The recommendations in it are
based on US and Canadian tax requirements as well as general best practices
for all types of personal records. This publication is available from
ARMA's electronic bookstore, and will be available at the Chicago
conference. The ISBN is 0-9685727-2-3, authors are Denise Dale and
Alexandra Bradley, CRM, publication imprint is 2d ed. Revised, 2004.
Streamline Information and Organizing Services, Richmond, B.C. Canada. Web
site is www.streamlinebooks.com.

For specific retention requirements for personal tax information in the
various countries you have asked about, you can check the following sources:
Canada - www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals; Australia -
www.ato.gov.au/individuals ; United Kingdom - www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals.

These sites give guidance on how long to retain personal records:

http://www.gofso.com/Premium/LE/21_le_ot/fg/fg-Record_Keeping.html

http://www.uwyo.edu/CES/FRM/FRM/HouseholdFilingSystem.PDF

Does anyone know of any Australian, Canadian or U.K. references?

Thanks.
