I am a great fan of directing folks to the Council of State Archivists
(COSA, formerly State Historical Records Coordinators or COSHRC)website
at http://www.coshrc.org/arc/states.htm. This give links to each
state's records management and archives websites. In going to the
website for CT, I happened to find the schedule for Municipal Public
Safety and Emergency Services at http://www.cslib.org/retsafety.pdf.
Links to all local schedules for the Constitution State can be seen at

Subject: Police Department Records
A neighbor of mine is an officer for a mid sized city in our area and
has inherited the enviable task of organizing the chief's records.
Apparently there has been no formal process in place up till this point.
He is struggling with where to turn initially and I of course thought of
this fine body.
Does anyone have a listing of records series for police departments
which I might review to give my friend an idea of where to get started?
