Shouldn't your company be able to trust your records staff to handle
confidential material as much as they trust HR? We are not a private
organization but our records management staff receives the same
confidentiality training and operate under the same confidentiality
guidelines as our HR and our medical support staff. We deal with inactive
patient records and inactive HR records all the time in records storage and
scanning/micrographics.

Subject: Records and HR

Here's an issue.

Starting up a new records program. HR is very reluctant to have anyone
but their own touch, catalogue, manage, box their files. Soon, the RIM
records room and the HR Dept with their files will be moving to the same
floor. It is the intention of the RIM program to get involved with the
HR files but their objections are well founded with issues of security
and confidentiality. The RIM program is brand new and getting to the
point of managing Legal/Financial files in a more professional manner.

How are HR files handled in other private corporations that are small to
medium sized [700 employees]? Do they normally handle their own files
and use Records as their courier service to off-site storage? How can
confidentiality/security issues be overcome?
