The answer to this question depends on the weight of the paper... If we are talking about 20lb stock with no file folders, you should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3500 pages per box.

Subject: A twist on an old question

I have a unique twist on the age-old question: How much paper fits in a box? I have searched the list archives for the answer to that question, and have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking at (I've no intention of opening THAT can of worms!), but I'm curious to know how much of a difference it would make when the pages are folded into folders that are 9 1/2" (H) x 4" (L)?

Specifically, I'm looking at old probate cases from the late 1800's. I'd like to inventory these cases, so that customers doing research don't have to look through the fragile pages themselves. At the same time, I'd like to see if I can put the papers in sheet protectors.

I'm trying to estimate how many pages might be in each box, so I can bulk order the protective sleeves. I'd also like to handle the pages as little as possible myself, so conducting an actual count is not high on my list. Can anyone give me a best guess on how much extra space is used when paper is in these small folders? Or does it even out, since more of these folders will fit into a box (roughly 12" x 15" x 10)?

  Thanks in advance,
