I guess misinterpretation is what can happen when every other word is
read... =)

My point were:

- WHILE THE CASE IS ACTIVE most attorneys will prefer to have the paper
files available to use.
- ONCE THEY ARE IMAGED the paper may be destroyed and a 2-staged process of
retaining the electronic images may be put in place to satisfy the balance
of the retention

No suggestion was made to retain them LONGER than the assigned retention
period for the record; just not to retain them BOTH unless there was a
convenience reason for it (attorney's use, perhaps)

No comment was made that YOU HAVE TO RETAIN THEM after scanning (once the
images have been verified to be accurate and complete), but that some
organizations DO

And in many jurisdictions IF YOU HAVE BOTH a paper and electronic record,
there is guidance that states the paper copy trumps the electronic copy (and
likely, there are some jurisdictions that go the other way).
