The new Canadian Federal Accountability Act received Royal Assent on December 12, 2006. In this act there is a change in the definition of a "record". I thought I would share this with you.

It is now "record means any documentary material, regardless of medium or form".

It should be noted that the definition no longer contains types of records. By excluding these types it is to be interpreted that the definition includes every type of record or documentary material, regardless of physical form or characteristics. This will not have an impact on the application of the Access to Information Act, since in the Act the definition of record has always been interpreted broadly.
