to fully inform folks of the archivist listserv there was a recent
discussion on recmgmt-l concerning how I select stories for RAIN.
Marion Sumerlibrarian who ever that is did not like my explanation of
how stories are selected for RAIN

to put it in a digest form I use Google News Alerts. GNA searches over
4500+ news sources for stories that match the search criteria I have
established. I currently have over 50+ news alerts running. Each alert
may return one or more stories for review. What the alert returns is
what you see in the RAIN postings. After 10 years of selecting and
posting stories I believe that I have developed a sixth sense of the
type of stories that would be of interest to 4 different listservs.

Marion believes that my selection process is biased. I do not hesitate
to say that politically I am right of center. Marion may believe that
this colors my selection of stories. Now recently there were some
stories concerning the closing of EPA Libraries. I do not remember my
news alerts capturing any of these stories. If this is what has Marion
upset about then that person can feel free to post links to the
stories. When links were posted on commented on those stories I posted
my comments. RAIN postings can be subjected to the same commentary

Now on the recmgmt-l list I offered a challenge to Marion. I would
forward onto Marion a week's worth of my Google News Alerts for him to
review and to post stories that he thinks I should have posted. To
date this challenge has not been accepted.

I also have a problem with anonymous posting. Who is Marion
Sumerlibrarian? where does he live and work?
