I was going to send this comment earlier...but decided not to. However,
in the response to the original post concerning Imaging and document
management software...I continue to see statements that seem very
misleading to me.
To clarify, making paper documents available in electronic form by
scanning....in and of itself...does not really necessarily provide any
efficiencies. The important component in "document management" software
is "workflow" capabilities. And that is automated routing of information
in electronic form. The fact that it is in "electronic" form means it
can be routed through an automated system of processes...or workflow as
the industry has come to call it. Automating information "flow" so that
it can be "acted upon" in whatever way in a more efficient manner, is
where the cost of document management software systems is supported.
Imaging is just a tool necessary to such a system since the vast
majority of our "documents/information" remains today in "paper"
form....and therefore we must have some way of converting the paper
document into an electronic form along with the other, already
electronic, information (electronic data, purely electronic documents,
etc.) needed in the "process."
