yup! how to reply to listserv messages. with well over 1500
subscribers many of them have elected to receive the digest rather
than individual messages. Now not many folks realize it but the digest
gathers together all of a day's messages and delivers them the next
day in one message.

But the poor digest subscribers face a particular problem, and that
involves their fellow subscribers not deleting out previous messages
when they post a reply. The recent query by LarryM asking is it Record
or Records is a classic example. Out of 11 replies 10 of them kept
Larry's entire message as part of the reply.

Now why is this a problem. Well a couple of reasons. First it greatly
increases the size of the digest to the point that some email systems
will reject the digest as being too big. Secondly it makes the digest
very difficult to read as folks scroll down trying to read each new
message only to be faced with slowly memorizing Larry's message.

so what to do, what to do. well remember to delete out what you don't
need from the previous message when writing your reply. that's all it
takes nothing more nothing less.

Of course after posting this I'm sure I'll get a pithy short response
from Flynn which will contain this entire message. sigh
