With kudos to the wonderful work PeterK has done, I kind of miss RAIN

Akron Beacon Journal: Diary provides look at personal life of John S.
Knight
"The little green book arrived at the newspaper office in a Whole Foods
shopping bag, the top taped shut, with a note tucked inside.
Was there something we could do with this?
The book was a small, leather-bound diary, dated 1924, kept by Katherine
''Katie'' Knight, the first wife of John S. Knight."

BBC: Poverty in 1800s under scrutiny
Two parts of Wales feature in a project unearthing what life was like
for the poor in 19th Century Britain. The scheme, launched by the

Rueters: Holocaust group to lobby pope over Pius sainthood
Benedict has so far not signed the decree, approved last year by the
Vatican's saint-making department, opting instead for what the Holy See
has called a period of reflection. Jews have asked the Vatican to open
up its archives for the wartime period to qualified scholars.

The Jerusalem Post: Another Tack: Pius's pious pretension
British author John Cornwell, a committed Catholic and one-time
candidate for the priesthood, aimed to prove Pius's innocence in face of
charges that he had betrayed the Jews during their darkest hours.
Cornwell was even allowed to peruse bits of the secret Vatican archives,
the vast bulk of which the Holy See still refuses to open to scrutiny.

The Cabin.net: Elder collection is old-school but marvelous treasure for
UCA
I had come to view a fraction of the archives of the late Jim Elder when
Jimmy Bryant, University of Central archivist, took me back a bit by
hauling out something from my archives from another publication.
It was an excerpt of a column I had written about two decades ago, long
forgotten, about Elder, the longtime Arkansas Travelers broadcaster,
University of Arkansas football statistician, radio personality,
Arkansas Sports Hall of Famer and sports fan/observer extraordinaire.

Southwesteronterio.ca: Festival will not destroy thrust stage
Over the years, the Festival's archives department has kept a detailed
description of all changes to the Festival stage and collected the
commentary of artistic directors who have overseen those changes,
beginning with Guthrie himself. Sadly, this will be the first renovation
not involving Miss Moiseiwitsch, but Mr. McAnuff and general director
Antoni Cimolino promise to remain true to her design.

The New York Times: Bush Warns of Vulnerability in a Transition
The new law also provides $8 million for the Executive Office of the
President, which will see a big increase in personnel work for officials
entering and leaving the government; $5.7 million for the White House to
prepare electronic records for transfer to the National Archives; $15
million for security costs associated with the inauguration; and about
$600,000 to cover the cost of a pension, office space and other benefits
for Mr. Bush after he leaves the White House.

Government Health IT: U.K.'s Project Runaway
The United Kingdom's ambitious plan to introduce a nationwide health
information technology system has reached a turning point. The $22
billion program has scored some notable successes, including the launch
of medical imaging and appointment management services. But it has also
come under criticism from those who say it is spiraling out of control.
