I see UPS come to our office and leave packages on the front door step that are extremely valuable and when you ream them out about the package needing a signature they just look at you.

If these documents are priceless they should be stored in a vault that you know you can trust right there in Chicago and bring the imaging device to that location. IG2Data Security is an amazing company run by two attorney's who understand protection of vital records and media.

They have contacts in the imaging world and could have an imaging company come in to their facility which is near your office in Chicago, and image the materials one unit at a time so your exposure is within risk management tolerance.

Their facility is amazing with every bell and security whistle and the owners understand risk since they are intellectual property attorneys.

It is a pretty tough economy in which to lose a job and certainly the loss of these records would spell the end of your career or if it is your boss who is telling you to take this lackadaisical approach, submit your suggestion in writing that you take a more risk adverse course of action and copy more than him about your suggestion to reduce risk. Then they fire him, not you.
