Position summary:
Work in a team of 6 analysts to provide records management services and training to North Carolina government agencies (local, regional, and state). Analysts provide advice and conduct training (workshops, online training modules, office consultations) on topics including public records law, electronic recordkeeping, filing and storage systems, and disaster recovery. In consultation with agency representatives, analysts write and update records retention schedules, which grant records custodians the authority to dispose of, permanently preserve, and/or transfer public records. Analysts regularly work with other staff to survey records of government offices in order to identify records of statewide historical value to be transferred to the State Archives. Frequent in-state travel and occasional overnight travel required (transportation and per diem expenses reimbursed). Occasional Saturday work in the Archives' Public Services Unit (Search Room) required.

Education/Qualifications:
Requires bachelor's degree in history, public history, public administration, or a related social science discipline and one year of archival or records management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Prefer additional directly related education (e.g. archives and records management, library science, public history, public administration), training and experience as specified in the description of work and knowledge, skills and abilities sections above.

Government Records Section overview:
The Government Records Section is a collaborative section of the State Archives of North Carolina charged with overseeing and administering the records management program for North Carolina's state and local government agencies. It is comprised of three units: Records Analysis (analyst archivists), Records Description (arrangement and description archivists), and State Agency Services (Records Center operations). The three units work in close consultation to achieve the Section's goals, including the current, multi-phase migration of legacy metadata into a comprehensive records lifecycle management system.
