Why is it important to prepare for the unexpected? What are essential
records? How are they identified? How are they protected?

This workshop will provide information on:

·        The Essential Functions

·        Risk Assessments and Analysis

·        Things to consider when responding to a records emergency

·        Considering environmental control, pest control and fire protection

·        Identify and Protect Vital Records

·        Continuity of Operations

·        Recovery Considerations

To help illustrate points discussed videos will be shown while in
class.  Plus, a short in-class exercise will be included to ensure
attendees have a thorough understanding of the lesson.

Bret Adams, MCP

Government Information Analyst

Texas State Library and Archive Commission

State and Local Records Management Division

 Bret Adams is a Government Information Analyst with the Texas State
Library and Archives Commission.  He has a varied background including
personnel and program management, training design and instruction,
accounting and finance, and records management, both stateside and overseas.

He functions as a senior-level consultant to state agencies and local
government officials and employees on records management advising on legal
requirements and best practices pertaining to filing, storing, retention,
safeguarding, and disposing of records and information in all media.  Bret
serves as the agency’s continuity of operations (COOP) coordinator
responsible in directing the preparation to continue mission-critical
functions during and after an emergency or disaster.

 He garnered a BBA from North Texas State University (now known as
University of North Texas) and an MSA from Central Michigan
University, and served
in the Air Force for nearly eight years active duty including during
Operation Desert Storm.  He became a certified Professional Continuity
Practitioner in 2009 and a Master Continuity Practitioner in 2011 through
FEMA.
