I wasn't sure on Parts 1-5. I did know about mentors for Part 6 because I am one LOL!
The Greater Seattle Chapter has a study group for Parts 1 - 5. And they/we have purchased the study materials from ARMA. 

The books I found most useful were:
"Information & Image Management" by Rick, Swafford & Gow - it's old now and out of print, but still has useful theory.
"Records & Information Management" by William Saffady. I believe it's in it's 4th edition. 

I had been in the records management & micrographics field for 20 years when I had a realization that this was my chosen field and I might as well apply for and take the exams. We all have different motivations. Mine was personal and not employer driven although being a CRM has helped me done the road.
