Organizations account for their assets on the balance sheet. They track the
value of their financial holdings, buildings, plants, land, equipment,
inventory, furniture and fixtures, and other assets. Down to the dollar.
They even account for "Goodwill" which is a supplemental asset that reflects
the trust and reputation a firm has established in their markets.

But they do not account for the value of the information they hold. The
problem is, there is no established standard way of making these
calculations....
