>>I am trying to see the difference between Basic search and Advanced
search capabilities? Does anyone have a definition for these two
capabilities?<<

As others have said, it depends a lot on the capabilities of your
particular tool. However, over the years I have used the following as
my base for the two:

Basic: Searches which focus on use of metadata (read custom object
indices) related to objects retained or referenced by the system.
Includes use of Boolean searches (and, or, not, begins with, ends with,
contains, and wild cards)

Advanced: Searches which may use all of the above, but may also use
system metadata (read system object indices) and content to either
filter the results of a basic search or to accomplish more complex
content searches.

Once again, this is just my way of artificially dividing the searches
into two categories.
