I'm Emma Shadow and I'm relatively new to Records Management.

I've been working for a service bureau doing scanning for about 6 months and
prior to that, I was a records clerk at a local not-for-profit Law Firm
doing work for the disadvantaged in a largely Hispanic community.

I've been lurking on the Listserve for a few months and was interested in
some of the recent posts about RM Degrees and certificate programs,
especially those being offered online. I have an Associates degree, and was
thinking about obtaining some further, more specific, education. I also
noticed some courses being offered by an individual on a number of subjects.

Some of these are referred to as "ERM courses" and they are somehow
associated with AIIM, which confused me. I've been to a couple of ARMA
Chapter meetings and one AIIM chapter meeting also. I thought ARMA was where
most records management education was being offered. I've visited AIIM's
web site and see they offer things like CDIA training, but this doesn't look
like it's really records management to me, it's more hardware and
applications training.

I've searched the Listserve archives and I see these individual courses have
been offered off and on and noticed that people have asked if anyone has
taken any of them, but didn't see any responses that said anyone has? The
only response I saw was from someone who is teaching the courses, and he
said they were good (grin) which didn't surprise me.

Does anyone have any input on the courses?

Thank you!
