I do agree with Barbara's point about certifying RIM professionals in
the identified core competencies. But these should be limited to a
handful of certifications so their importance is not diluted. The lack
of a CRM designation casts a shadow on the significant knowledge and
experience of many.

I really have to learn not to think out loud.   It seems that my
comments 
were taken as an insult to the CRM designation and that was definitely
not 
what I intended.   Just the opposite. 

How many times have we all seen employment ads with job descriptions
that 
were obviously entry level RM but the employer is insisting on a CRM?
They 
don?t understand how we can be members of a PROFESSION and not have a 
degree in that profession.   As said in a previous post, you?re either a

CRM or you?re not.

What I was suggesting was, if the colleges and universities are not
going 
to accommodate the RM profession then why doesn?t ARMA or ICRM take on 
that responsibility?   While I?m not suggesting that they create courses

etc (although that?s not altogether a bad idea), they can create a
testing 
/ certification environment. 

The CRM will always be the ultimate designation but if we are going to 
come out and specify multi-tiered core competencies, shouldn?t we also 
provide a tool to measure and recognize those competencies?
