Hi everyone

My apologies for the late posting of this information with respect to the
ECM Surveys. I had meant to post this by the end of September. As this
year's survey went to 3 lists - RMAA, RMUK and RM North America, I was very
interested in the results, as they show globally a snapshot of what is
happening in the arena of Enterprise Content Management software.

Access to the 2005 survey
http://www.surveymonkey.com/Report.asp?U=128396735662

Access to the 2006 survey
http://www.surveymonkey.com/Report.asp?U=246194032641

Placing these in adjacent windows and scrolling through invites some
interesting comparisons. Also downloading of the results and limited
filtering is available on the survey monkey site.

Some snippets from the 2006 survey.

More people are planning for ECM than actually rolling out. 30% in 2005 and
now 35% in 2006. I believe this is cautionary.

Spending for the most part remains unchanged. However most still budget
more than $500,000.

Is E-mail a part of the solution? There was a considerable increase in
organizations dealing with e-mail in their ECM solution. 65% addressed in
2005 & 81% in 2006.

Is Web Content a concern? Again there was an increased response. 45%
addressed in 2005 & 74% in 2006. The rise in Intranets as an information
exchange vehicle within organizations has led to a huge increase in web
documents and a corresponding need to manage them more effectively.

More users planned. Planned ECM installs with > 1000 users have increased
substantially. 13% estimated in 2005 & 40% in 2006.

Training is taking a broader approach. e.g. train the trainer approach
dropped from 25% in 2005 to 14% in 2006. It seems that most organizations
are seeking additional training and more effective training methods. This
would suggest that while train the trainer is efficient, it is not having
the impact that is desired.

ECM support is moving from IT to RM. This was to be expected. This means
that help desks, security management, and metadata are increasingly being
supported by RM staff.

Again many thanks to those who completed the survey, your suggestions and
comments are most welcome.
Regards

Jim
