For this in Asia or passing through, the Hong Kong Knowledge Management
Society monthly event is scheduled for October 31 2006 at the IBM offices
at Taikoo Place. For details, visit: http://www.hkkms.org

Records management is widely perceived to be about warehousing paper in
this region. As part of my ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the broad
value of RIM, I will be presenting and updating a study conducted as pat of
my graduate work. That study examined the leadership inherent in under-
recognized populations--I picked RMgrs as a good example of often
undervalued practitioners who must exert leadership despite positions that
may not be "powerful", and looked at the factors that enabled them to
influence their organizations. I owe a debt of gratitude to many ARMA
members, and others, who took part in Australia, Canada and the US.

The Hong Kong presentation will focus on the RM functions that were found
in participating organizations, revealing the great variety of program
configurations that reflect (a) business environment and (b) internation
grasp of RIM.

I am very intersted in expanding this study, so welcome your views on the
value of doing so for our comunity. Feel free to write me off list at
jobrien -at- irmstrategies.com . We are also writing on the issues of
navigating "culture" in the improvement of RIM and liability management
while enabling KM and learning comunities of practice. Feedback/interest
welcome!

In the mean time, if passing through Asia, we're presenting a case study on
health care reform that integrates RM in Macau (Oct 26-28) and will be
introducing a conceptual model for Knowledge Management that includes RM
underpinnings (KMAP 2006 December 11-14, 2006), and will present on
preservation issues for tropical climates at the PRISM conference, February
2007. Hope to see some old friends there!

Regards,
John
