Terrance,
While it is often difficult to attain, you should get an accurate force
delpetion report prior to entering hostile territoy. Casualties are a part
of any good records audit and prior planning is essential to surviving any
such expedition. Contingency planning helps. Expect success but plan for
failure. Always have a bolt hole ready. Unlike some, we records managers do
not have the luxury of not having an adequate exit strategy (He who runs
away today lives to run away another day, Brett Maverick). Always keep the
goal in mind. Records audits are expeditionary in scope. You are there to
observe and document. Get in and get out, keep your head and keester down or
you will get it shot off. There is an old saying, they can kill me but they
can't eat me. Don't believe it. That saying was dreamed up by a guy on the
beach sippiing drinks that have umbrellas in them. The closest he ever came
to a records audit was when the law wearched office after he beat feet out
of the country. Carefully distribute your findings along precribes routes.
If you have a problem employee either send them in first to be eaten or keep
them well away. Some consider cyanide and cowards way out if captured. I
think in is an individual choice so I leave it to you. I don't know how well
loved you are in the organization but it is always best to assume nobody os
going to come to your aid if things start to go bad. It is always nice to e
pleasantly surprised to look up and see the VP ther eon your side or legal
counsel. Don't count on it but it is nice.
Good luck and if we don't hear from you we will hang your picture on the
wall and Peter will buy a round in your memory at he list party,
Chris Flynn
