A little background. Pdf/a is a standard for formatting images for
future use. It was created as a long-term retention tool. The premise
for the standard was to be able to create an image in a format that did
not require constant migration as pdf software versions changed and did
not require a particular product or brand to view the images. FileNet
has representatives on the ISO committee that developed the original
standard and that is continuing to work on the standard.
<I am not sure if the FileNet ECMS system we use converts to a PDF
format conformable to the pdf/a standard.>
< These records are stored for a retention period of five years, then
they are destroyed.>
I think you answered your own question. FileNet products certainly do
handle pdf format images. Whether they will convert to pdf/a is not an
issue for images that only have a five year retention.
