ARMA's conferences are selected years and years in advance. ARMA has
selected venues through 2015 as of this writing (see below). Advance
selection ensures that popular venues can be booked when we typically
have the Conference and often, that we can lock in pricing in advance.
This year's Conference date is unfortunate. The Board discussed the
timing of the 2007 Conference with Canadian region leadership last Fall
and we were told that there would likely be an impact, but not a
substantial impact. The Columbus Day side of the equation is a little
harder to read. I've also never worked for a company that had this day
as a holiday, but it is a US Federal holiday. The proximity to DC
should yield a fair number of government employee attendees and we're
hopeful that the Monday holiday may increase the number of attendees
for the Expo side since some government folks may not be able to get
away from work normally, but may take advantage of the holiday to come
and take a look at the Expo.

Nonetheless, the timing is somewhat unfortunate. At the same time,
we're also at the mercy of the venues and their availability. I think
we make some effort to avoid a variety of holidays, but it is not
always possible. My understanding is also that we're up against some
Jewish holidays that may cause conflicts for some folks during at least
some of the Conference period.

Another issue that comes up from time to time is that Conference will
sometimes either bridge fiscal years or that successive Conferences
will occur in the same fiscal year. (for fiscal years beginning October
1) Again, this is often due to venue availability.

So the bottom line is that we're aware of the concerns and we're trying
hard to avoid these things, but sometimes, we have little or no choice
in dates to get the venues we want (and this is both the convention
center and the hotels). The good news is that ARMA has a very large and
healthy Expo, but the bad news is that the size of the Expo limits the
venues where Conference can be held -- and thus the available dates.

Here are upcoming Conferences:

2007	Baltimore	Oct. 7-10 Baltimore Convention Center, Renaissance
Harborplace Hotel

2008	Las Vegas Oct. 20-23
LV Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton Hotel
