Couldn't sleep last night and thought about going to a Holiday 
Inn...pondering this question. And I have not read everyone's response word 
by word.

My 2 cents - I don't think that there is a clear cut answer to this 
question. I think you may want to list backups as an item in your IT 
schedule, standard, bucket, or whatever you call it. But no matter what, 
somewhere someone - you as the R&IM manager or your IT collegues - need to 
document how you backup your systems; where you store your backups; and how 
long you keep said items. And you or someone needs to keep that 
documentation current. Back in the day that was called a procedure. 
Something so many of us (me included) forget to do.
