I was asked about ISO 27001 today.  The person asking wanted to know if I felt that if a company was "27001 compliant" did that mean that it was safe to send sensitive data overseas to be used for indexing, etc.
   
  Anyone out in ListServ land have experience being ISO 27001 compliant or working with companies that are compliant with the standard?  Is compliance with this standard verified by a separate entity or is it one of the standards that each organization determines whether or not it is compliant?
