Amber,
One area where many organizations have failed to successfully implement an
EDRM is by treating it as an IT project. The system is configured and
deployed without any clear understanding of the business process and how the
technology can be designed to support points in the process where records
are created and should be captured. After the system has been implement, it
does not address the needs of business users.

Users find the system clunky to use and cannot easily locate records. This
creates other risks to the organization because users create individual
workarounds by storing records in other places other than the system of
record.

Thanks

Subject: Question: Electronic Records Issues

Hello all,

I am a current MLS student at the University of Maryland, and I'm in the
process of preparing for a presentation on the most important issues with
electronic records today. My group has come up with our own ideas on what
those issues might be, but none of us have experience working with
electronic records, so we're turning to you for additional input!

What would you say is the most important electronic records issue faced by
the records management community? By the archival community? (This might
be the same issue, or it might not--we want to know what you think!)

We're grateful for any help or input you'd like to provide.

Thanks,
Amber Forrester
