Hi all, with apologies for cross-posting, and with a beg for indulgence for
the length of the post and the shill at the end:

As I sit cleaning up my inbox and sent items on a chilly CO Friday (really -
50 degrees F as I type this) I thought it remarkable how much discussion
we've had about email recently that was on-topic, reasonably well
thought-through, and above all respectful. So on behalf of all the lurkers
out there who don't post but do read all these responses, even the OT ones,
thanks everyone who participated.

As many of you know, I have worked on a number of email-related projects in
the last 18 months or so including co-writing the inaugural ARMA "Hot Topic"
white paper, "Managing the E-Maelstrom"(
http://www.arma.org/pdf/hottopic/feb2008.pdf); developing the AIIM Email
Certificate Program; and developing the AIIM Email ROI calculator. No, this
is not the troll - that comes at the end of the message. I bring it up
because many of you also know that I wanted to write a book on email
management and had gotten as far as sending a book proposal to a number of
different publishers before circumstances conspired to put it off
indefinitely. In the meantime, a number of others have published various
email-related works, including Robert Smallwood's Taming the Email Tiger and
CMSWatch's Email Archiving and Management Report. But I still think there's
room out there for a more comprehensive treatment that includes a lot of the
stuff I address in the EMM Class as well as some additional information.

To that end, I'd like to request that those of you that are interested in
participating in such a project, whether as a reviewer, potential
contributor, or case study, and whether attributed or anonymous, please send
me a note DIRECTLY - not back to the entire list. My direct email is

Now, for the troll: I am also teaching the Email Certificate program in the
fall. Currently scheduled courses include Sept 8-11 in Houston; Sept 15-18
in Denver; and Oct 6-9 in Los Angeles. The course is set up similarly to
other AIIM courses: the first two days are the Email Practitioner, which
answers the question, "What is email management?". The second two days are
the Email Specialist, which addresses "How to implement email management" +
advanced modules on discovery, IM, web-based email, and alternatives to
email like blogs and wikis. And all four days taken together is the Email
Master which also gets access to the in-class and home-based case study.

Details on the courses can be found at http://www.aiim.org/training/emm;
additional details on our scheduled courses including locations and costs
can be found at http://www.accesssciences.com/email.

Please don't hesitate to contact me directly if I can provide any additional
information about email management, the book project, the Email Certificate
Program, or the specific classes I mentioned above.

Regards,

Jesse Wilkins
