This CRM did want to attend because her new boss knew very little about records management and the presented topics were not so terribly basic as you describe.  Yes, I knew most of it.  Sometimes people think they are CRM's and know enough and don't need to attend something like this.  Something expressed in new and unique ways from your experiences and perceptions can always aid you.
 
Admittedly, many that participate in this listserve are extremely knowledgeable about the best presenters etc...  Finding the people that best hammer it into management's head is what is key here.  Our seminar had basic tennets of RIM taught but had an excellent Electronic Discovery presentation.  People that have never thought of these concepts in a certain way and then get the RIM concepts introduced to them....that my firends is not a wasted experience to discuss and witness when you see the lightbulb go off.  We had an excellent E-Discovery and an excellent Audit Your RIM program presentation.  Somehow that made my boss understand so much more of what I do or am trying to build.  He heard the words I had said, reiterated from more eloquent speakers than I and that served as a touchstone for me.
 
Perhaps, ARMA and the speakers that are known for most knowledgeable and confident expression of the "messages" of RIM, need to encourage counsel that are savvy to also speak and need to contact Fred Pryor Seminars so that these sessions are more meaningful countrywide.  What if the best of us are not presenting at these seminars?
 
The flyer represents itself as being for Senior Executives, IT Directors, Counsel, Newbies.  Come on guys help the seminars be what they need to be if they're talking about our field.  But, please don't denigrate something that could be a very great aid to our cause.  Some companies are willing to pay a few hundred for a day but not $2-3,000 for 3-4 days at conferences.

That is a correct representation, from my experience. I have been
contracted to give these sessions for a similar company (am giving one
this month). The presentation is an overview of the basic tenents of
records management - not geared towards professional records managers.

These seminars are canned approaches for introductory level training
--often for secretarial types who have been "dropped in" to the
position.  They do contract training on anything from how to write a
business letter to public speaking.  Generally the quality depends on
the person hired for any given locality and the depth of knowledge
he/she has in the field.  Curriculum itself for these seminars tends to
be very shallow and weak--more like an overview at that.  I wouldn't
rely on any such seminar to prepare anyone to deal with our area of
practice, but for someone with no clue, a seminar of this type might be
a good "look, see" experience, if only to acquaint themselves with
others with no clue.  

This is not meant to pejorative to any Fred Pryor seminar, just a
general observation that such seminars are generally not intended to
prepare someone to practice.

I recently received a flyer for a one day Fred Pryor Seminar to be held
on "Records Retention and Destruction". I would be interested in

from anyone who has attended a Fred Pryor Seminar about the quality of

I have searched the list archives and have not seen this brought up
before, also did Google/Dogpile searches and have not found much in the
way of reviews, lots of sites offering the various Pryor courses
however.

Please let me know the "good, bad, and ugly" if you can - either on
