Chris,
Content, context and structure must be present and maintained to
ensure full and accurate records. Have a look at the functional
requirements for evidence, in particular the principle 'complete'.
The functional requirements for evidence was a research project
undertaken by the University of Pittsburgh School of Information
Sciences between 1992 and 1996. A search through archive.org for
<http://www.archives.gov/grants/>www.sis.pitt.edu/~nhprc should
assist you to locate the research.
I think it will soon become evident how important these three things
are along with other principles. In Australia the principles of the
functional requirements for evidence have been driven by guidance to
agencies from the national and state government records bodies.
