That was exactly the type of information I was looking for.

Sounds as if it's similar to how networked Lenovo PeeCees are protected in
that even if you remove the hard drive from one you're unable to install it
in another and access the content. 

Naturally, this has its good points and bad points, but one thing it makes
clear is if you're using a company owned BB or similar device, you better
keep it synced regularly if you don't want to lose local content in the
event of a loss of the device and a security policy designed to protect it!
