When I encounter managers for the first time regarding records
management, one of the most common mistakes is the notion that a records
management problem can be solved as a one time project, not as an
on-going practice. While I realize that members of this listserv
understand that, many average people do not. Records management is
"solved" when the boxes go away, the files are cleared, etc.... In that
sense, the use of the adjective "systematic" makes perfectly good sense
to me. Where I would have a problem is if it is being used to sell a
"new and improved" or even "different" form of "records management",
even the "real" records management. ILM comes to mind. If that is the
context, then the use of the entire phrase "systematic records
management" is inappropriate, particularly if it implies achieving
records management goals without use of records management practices.
