Virginia's thoughts mirror my own on the differences between vision and
mission, with vision being a forward looking statement of what you would
like be or become, while the mission statement has typically been a
statement of a group's "reason for being".  That's the approach that has
been taken by ARMA International.

One aspect of this that we've discussed within the ARMA Strategic
Planning Group over many years is that Vision, Mission and other
Strategic Planning elements should come from those who are involved,
from the stakeholders in the process...rather than being something
coming from "the top down".  Obtaining the buy-in from those involved
can be critical to that group's ability to identify with the Vision and
Mission, and can be just as critical to the success of implementation.
