Julie hits the nail on the head. That's the problem - the reason why emerging technologies such as twitter should be avoided until management & IT gets the management and capture solution in place. Practical - probably not unless policies are developed that encompass emerging social networking technologies.
Part of the problem from my knothole is that IT is overwhelmed with just keepin thier head above water - especially with a 3 year old company created via divestiture. It's just not on the radar - yet.
