David:

ARMA International uses the official definition cited in ISO 15489-1. We do
add one caveat. ISO titles the definition "records management", while we
title it "records and information management". Thus, here is our official
definition of records and information management per section 3.16 of ISO
15489-1:

"...field of management responsible for the efficient and systematic control
of the creation, receipt, maintenance, use and disposition of records,
including processes for capturing and maintaining evidence of and
information about business activities and transactions in the form of
records"

Sincerely,

John

Bill and others...

Has ARMA developed a scope statement defining what is and what is not
records management. Take the following statement:

"Advances in technology are profoundly changing models of conducting
business. Conversely, business-related challenges and opportunities
represent some of the major factors shaping the development of technology
and information management. Throughout the intersecting territories of
business and technology lie tremendous opportunities for valuable research.
The PhD in Information, Technology and Management Program explores this
growing body of knowledge. The program, a collaboration of the Division of
Engineering and Applied Sciences (DEAS) in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences
and HBS, seeks to develop new methodologies and to generate research that
explores in depth the interaction between information, technology and
management."

Is this a records management program. It was taken from a reference to the
Harvard University website that I found online.
