I personally find it hard to believe one can compare the CRM exam to a Master's degree.

Subject: Re: Current List of RIM Educational Opportunities, and More!
For those of you who don't know, the Orange County spring seminar is always
excellent. Their CRM prep courses are always excellent and are a proven
strategy for passing the test. This brings ups another topic about
educational opportunities.
One way to look at the CRM is to see it as the equivalent of a master's
degree in records management. With three years of broadly based experience
in records management and test passage, you have essentially demonstrated
mastery of the field--inasmuch as one can do so. You might also be delighted
to know that the CRM and the ARMA competencies show a nearly 100% overlap in
content. What this means is that if you have a CRM, you have also been
tested against the competencies. No test can check for mastery of an entire
field, so there are parts of the competencies that won't be tested against
in any given exam, but that is the same in any comprehensive testing. What
the competencies do for us CRMs is to give us a specialized guide for where
we need some additional education. In addition, the CRM is a recognized
brand. I do not believe there is a need for a degree or "certificate" beyond
this except where specialized knowledge is important to your specific work
or career.
Best wishes,
Carol
