I disagree, to some extent, with the other posting on this issue.

I think that the United States has become too parochial in its approach
to this issue, and is ignoring other, more generally-useful documents,
such as the European Commission's "Model Requirements for the Management
of Electronic Records", now in version 2.

DoD 5015.2 was, and still is, a document focussed on (1) the needs of
the US Dept. of Defense, and (2) electronic records, to the virtual
exclusion of physical records (sorry, SteveW, physical records haven't
gone away).

In addition, the certification process has become a red herring, with
organisations whose functional and other requirements differ
substantially from those described in DoD 5015.2, becoming blindly
dependent on certification.

Best regards.

Fred

Subject: [RM] Importance of DoD 5015.2?

   1. Currently, how important is it to records managers that RIM
software be certified DoD 5015.2 compliant?
   2. Do you predict that forthcoming U.S. legislation (such as
requirements for digital medical records) will require compliance
      with 5015.2?

Thanks for your thoughts!
