In response to Doug's explanation of the process for recognition by the
USBLS, does anyone besides me remember hearing Allen Weinstein make a very
positive statement that alluded to this becoming a reality in 2010 when he
was the keynote in Baltimore?

Doug, can you elaborate a bit more? 

This issue continues to confound our profession in commanding the
understanding and respect we all desire.  And although I agree with Angie
and others that we all must continue to hone our skills and market our value
with an eye to the bottom line, it never hurts to have some supporting
forces at work in our behalf as well.
