It is certainly correct that in the US there are few obstacles for employers to monitor and record phone conversations of specific individuals or even everyone.  I have found that this from time to time may create interesting records retention questions as to how long such recordings need to be kept.  In one situation that I was involved in preliminary discussions indicated that the digital recordings were used solely for QA purposes.  As the discussion evolved it became apparent that the content of the recordings might be used as the basis for someone's termination and often functioned as a supplement to the case files.

This just goes to show that sometimes extended discussions of these issues may be useful.
