MICHAEL L. TUSHMAN is the Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of
Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He obtained his Ph.D. in
1976 from MIT, and prior to HBS, he taught at the Graduate School of
Business at Columbia University. His work focuses on managing strategic
innovation and large-scale change and on the relations among technological
change, senior executive teams, and organizational evolution. At Harvard
Business School he is the faculty chair of "Leading Change and
Organizational Renewal" and the "Advanced Management Program (AMP)"
executive education programs. At Columbia, he won the first W. H. Newman
Award for excellence and innovation in the classroom; in 2005, Tushman was
named Lecturer of the Year at CHAMPS, Chalmers University of Technology; and
in 2008 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Geneva
where he was commended by the university as a scholar internationally
recognized for his work on the relationships between technological change
and organizational evolution. He has worked with a range of doctoral
students.**
