I think this "service" is merely transitional and will soon be irrelevant anyway (but I admire the entrepreneurial spirit of the company - see a niche, fill it!).

I see bulk mail and other snail mail as falling to a similar prey as that of the hardcopy newspapers - the costs to produce and deliver will, at some point, cease to be covered by revenue (not to mention profit!).

Ad agencies and marketing folks will tell you, the future revenue stream is almost entirely electronically derived. Look at the explosion of social media. Look at the "semantic" ads that try to customize your shopping by watching your behaviors (search terms, etc.).

All of that being said, I still do business with a company whose sales rep doesn't not have an email address. It is a fantastic company, and he's a fantastic person, and so I deal with it. However ... Oh how I would prefer browsing their catalog on their website, sending him an email rather than a fax or a letter, etc.

So is the elimination of snail mail Good? Bad? Indifferent? It will be a different answer for each person. For me, it's some of all three.

Cheers all - off to happy hour!

Julie
