Regarding: Next someone will ask how many angels can fit on the
head of a pin - and I suppose someone will answer that too.

I do apologize for the vagueness of the question. I certainly did not
mean to imply that anyone could pull a specific dollar amount out of
thin air. I was, however, hoping that perhaps someone knew of an
article written in general terms on the accidental loss of records. I
asked a general question looking for a general answer or more
specifically a general article or resource.

Most of what I am finding relates to data security issues, and I was
interested in the old fashioned kind of loss.

Thank you to those offering a place look.

Rikki - This is an unanswerable question in the abstract. The cost of a
lost record is related to the value of that record to the organization
and what it would cost to re-create it, if that is desirable and/or
possible. This calculation would be specific to the organization and the
record involved. Any dollar figure that doesn't take that into account,
regardless of the supposed authoritative source, is meaningless. Next
someone will ask how many angels can fit on the head of a pin - and I
suppose someone will answer that too.

Rikki:

The last I remember from ARMA is $180.00 to recreate, find etc.

I would use ARMA as a starting resource.

Subject: Cost of lost records

Hi, Group.

I am looking for information on the cost of a lost record . . . not a
data breach but a good old fashioned accidental records loss where
someone shreds something they shouldn't or FedEx loses a box in
shipping. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks

Rikki Zengel
