One cannot assume that records managers own information management either as a concept or an activity. Other groups do lay similar claims. Special Library Association for example sees their organization as one of Information Professionals. The following information is from their website

http://www.sla.org/content/SLA/professional/index.cfm

"About Information Professionals
An Information Professional ("IP") strategically uses information in his/her job to advance the mission of the organization. This is accomplished through the development, deployment, and management of information resources and services. The IP harnesses technology as a critical tool to accomplish goals. IPs include, but are not limited to, librarians, knowledge managers, chief information officers, web developers, information brokers, and consultants. ... Contributing effectively to senior management strategies and decisions regarding information applications, tools and technologies, and policies for the organization. For full descriptions of the professional, personal, and core competencies for Information Professionals, consult the Competencies for Information Professionals of the 21st Century document."

Far more disturbing than the label fiasco was getting another glossy magazine in the mail box on the same day entitled "Information Management"
(formerly DM Review). See http://www.information-management.com/

And we thought that having the term "records" misappropriated by attorneys and IT systems managers was a problem! Now everyone is an information manager.

For those of you who are members of ARMA or otherwise subscribe to the publication, I received mine today with someone else's name/company on it - another ARMA member who lives about 20 miles away. I called ARMA HQ and the the person in Customer Service I spoke with told me that they became aware on Friday that some labels on IMs going out had some information fields "flipped."

Call if you want, but just saving you the trouble in case it caught your attention and were simply wondering.
