Lori:

In my last position where I managed corporate records we had a mixed system for destruction. For those records managed by the corporate records management group (mostly off-site records and a couple of file rooms) the corporate records management organization managed the process including getting sign-offs from the business units. For those records managed within the business units environs, the business units took care of it but had to file the applicable form and approvals with corporate records management. In the other job where I dealt with destruction (municipal records center) I managed the entire process.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [RM] Destruction of Records-How do you manage?

Since I am not a records manager, only thrown into the midst of a part-time records "helper" I am curious how your programs handle the destruction of records. Specially, who actually destroys records (in accordance with the retention guidelines) each department, or the records manager, etc. In my previous life, each department were responsible for their destruction, completed destruction forms; my current employer is leading towards the only destruction is by me? Your current practices and knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
