Larry,

Why do you assume that they did not conduct a functional assessment? Simply installing latest version of a product and working through some non-critical path issues and the client thought that by talking through these issues with other 12.5 adopters they'd help move resolution along more efficiently and comprehensively. Version 12.5 was only released in December 2008. By way of background, the client had worked with previous CARM versions and had been very pleased with the results, thus their decision to move forward with 12.5. Their process in selecting this package was comprehensive, including conducting RFPs, interviews, reference checking and a three month proof-of-concept assessment.

-Steve

Has your client tried contacting CA and asking them for a list of other
clients using the software in the pharma industry? I'm sure CA would be
willing to provide this to them, seeing as they are a customer.

I have a hard time understanding why as part of their Functional Needs
Assessment and prior to selection of an application your client didn't do
any benchmarking on products they were considering to determine if they were
well suited to their needs... but if they didn't, well...
