Many years ago, I was involved in a records move from a commercial
storage company to a state run records center. After going through the
misery of missing boxes that were, mysteriously, no one's fault, I
learned my lesson. The two records center moves we have been through
here at Waterworks involved us standing on the loading dock (both times
in ungodly heat and humidity) and checking every box on every pallet
against the inventory list before allowing it to be loaded onto the
truck for the move. Both times we came up with missing boxes. Since
the missing incidents were discovered prior to the pallets being loaded
onto the new vendor's trucks the blame was laid squarely on the old
vendor. We refused to pay the final bill until the missing boxes were
found or accounted for in their records.
