I began seeing the about two years ago.  They had a rep on the floor at the ARMA Expo in Baltimore and I asked him how/why they got into the business.  He said they got the idea (did not buy anyone, at least back then) since they were in many businesses already to expand their offerings.

As to assigning title of documents to a shredding provider I too would be opposed in general.
