4:00- 4:45 “Managing Instant Messaging – just a larger email iceberg?” by Paul
Fisher MLS, CRM, CDIA, Senior. Manager, Bearing Point LP

The use of Instant Messaging (IM) technology in a corporate environment is
rapidly becoming the next iceberg for Information Professionals to navigate
around. Like its communication cousin email, the majority of the concerns
around how to manage IM lie beneath the surface, but IM in turn has a number
of unique issues that the Information Professional community has not had to
contend with before. This session will present the IM view from an information
management perspective identifying the current information environment, the
concerns related to that environment and what every organization should be
considering now and in the future.

Paul Fisher is a Senior Manager with BearingPoint LP, and is a management and
information technology consulting company. Prior to working for BearingPoint,
Paul was a consultant in the Portals and Content Management Practice, a unit
within e-business Integration Solutions, a division of IBM Global Services. He
has worked with clients in the public and private sector, including utilities, real
estate, financial institutions, pharmaceuticals, energy resources,
manufacturing and communications.
Paul has developed strategic information management plans, classification and
indexing structures, retention schedules and policies/procedures
documentation. He currently develops business and functional specifications
for document and records management solutions and supports their
implementation. Paul is a frequent speaker with industry associations such as
the Canadian Information Processing Society and Association of Records
