In that kind of example, in my opinion, in wasn't lack of awareness. I
was that they did not care and did not think it would be discovered.

While I enjoyed my 5 seconds of fame (even though I did NOT say it was
an identity theft DISASTER), the sad part is the issue which caused the
article. Having records with PII thrown into a grocery store dumpster
by a small (now out of business) company says a lot about lack of
awareness of both the law and the consequences to their former
employees.
