A near "neighbor" of mine, Indus International (W. Salem, WI) also offer 
a very sophisticated, robotic book scanner.  Details are at:

Unlike the schematic in the Google diagram, the Indus product only 
requires the book to be opened 60 degrees, thereby helping to preserve 
the binding.
Some of us saw this product exhibited at the AIIM show in Philadelphia 
last month.
